Coach Mentoring
'Whilst a little knowledge goes a long way, a little experience may go even further.'
Our Rowing Ireland colleagues offer formal training via coach education, and that accumulation of knowledge through formal learning is an important step in the development of any coach. However, research has shown that coach modelling is an effective method of learning and that coaches learn best through on the job training and coaching experience. The Rowing Ireland High Performance team welcomes coaches who seek to develop their skills and experience through spending time with us at the NRC.
Subject to negotiation, and the agreement of a clear set of goals, we welcome coaches who wish to come and spend some time with the HP team at the NRC. It is well recognised that 'quality of practice' is one the most important characteristics of a coach - the ability to add real value during a coaching session so that an athlete can recognise that progress is being made.
The theory and knowledge is relatively straightforward, but what do good coaches actually say, and how do they say it? How do they connect to their athletes? If the idea of spending some time with our coaches appeals to you, then get in touch. Whether it's only for a few hours, a day, a weekend, or some other period of time to suit.
