#2 Assessment 11-12 February 2012, Newry
This assessment is by invitation only. Invitations to compete will be based on performance at the 1st assessment held in November 2011. Candidates will complete a 2000m Ergometer test on February 11th. Candidates who show a reduced level of performance in the ergometer test relative to the November assessment may at the discretion of the Lead Coach be denied the opportunity to participate further. Successful candidates will participate in a 5000m time trial in single sculls (1X) and pairs (2-) on February 12th. All pairs combinations will be agreed with the Lead Coaches for the respective programmes prior to the event. Both candidates that form a pair must maintain their performance standard on the ergometer.
#3 Assessment 6-9 April 2012, National Rowing Centre Cork
Invitations to this assessment will be issued to Seniors, U23s, and Juniors who have demonstrated their standard at the February assessment. These trials are compulsory for all rowers wishing to be considered for the World Championships, World U23s, European Championships, Junior World Championships, and Coupe de la Jeunesse.
Invitations will also be issued to Adaptive athletes who have demonstrated the potential to perform to required standard during training camp assessments. These trials are compulsory for all rowers wishing to be considered for teams run by Rowing Ireland’s High Performance programme. Rowers will not be considered for these teams, including as reserves if they have declined an invitation to these trials, unless for an exceptional reason agreed in writing by the Performance Director.
This assessment will comprise three races . The initial race will be a 1900m time trial. Based on the results of the time trial, semi-finals will be drawn (under FISA rules) and raced over 2000m. Finals will be drawn and raced over 2000m. Adaptive athletes will race at least twice over a 1000m course.
From these results a group will be selected for crew boat testing. These rowers will be part of the Rowing Ireland Training Group for the 2011 regatta season. International Crews will be selected from this group and tested at international Regattas. These results will also determine if any Adaptive athletes/crews will compete at international regattas in 2012.
#4 Assessment 23-24 June 2012, National Rowing Centre Cork
Invitations to these trials will be extended to junior candidates who have demonstrated their standard at April trials and Munich Junior regatta. Final junior selections will only be made after these trials.
Crew Boat Testing
The schedule for crew boat testing will be finalised once the candidates have been identified. Candidates will be expected to train at the locations directed by the Lead Coach
